‘As a detective constable in the department, you will take responsibility for the whole investigation process, from initial report stage, planning the investigation strategy to court hearing and beyond. We also have vacancies in our Rape Investigation Unit and Child Abuse Investigation Unit for candidates with the appropriate experience.

To be successful you must have completed the initial Crime Investigators Development Programme (ICIDP) or equivalent (CID Foundation Course and be accredited investigators at PIP level 2.

If you have an excellent attendance record, are high performing and are looking for a new challenge, then this could be the place for you. In return, as a police officer transferee, you will earn between £20,370 and £39,150 a year and will retain:

  • Your previous service and current levels of pay (excluding force specific benefits i.e. London Weighting)
  • annual leave entitlement, as long as there is no break in service
  • your current pension arrangements

Eligibility Requirements

  • You must be serving (or have served) with a Home Office Force. Officers from non-Home Office Forces will be considered on a case-by-case basis
  • Officers wishing to transfer within their probationary period will be considered on a case-by-case basis, depending on the training route being followed.
  • If you are a rejoiner you must have previously completed your probationary period and must have resigned within the last five years.
  • Have a full manual driving licence
  • be able to pass the necessary vetting and occupational health checks
  • be able to pass the basic fitness test – shuttle run (bleep test) to level 5.4
  • have no outstanding discipline or integrity issues

 

The recruitment process

Stage 1 Your application

You will need to provide evidence of why you wish to transfer to Leicestershire Police and what challenges do you think you will encounter.

 

Stage 2 Interview

You will be interviewed by two senior officers who will assess you against the personal qualities needed for a constable and also your commitment to Leicestershire Police and the challenges that we face as a county.

 

Stage 3 Pre-employment checks

If you are successful at the interview, you will be invited in for a medical and fitness test. If you pass these we will also carry out vetting checks and contact your current force HR department and line manager for employment references. Vetting level is RV, NPPV and CTC for these roles.

 

Stage 4 Final offer

Provided that you meet of the above checks, we will write to you offering you a position with us.

 

Please do not serve your notice to your current force until you have received your final offer letter in writing.
