Ava-May Littleboy: No police action over girl’s death on inflatable

Two people arrested after a three-year-old girl died after being thrown from an inflatable trampoline will face no further action, police have confirmed.

Ava-May Littleboy died of a head injury after the inflatable “exploded” on a beach in Gorleston, Norfolk on 1 July.

A man and a woman in their 40s from Great Yarmouth, arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter, will not face prosecution.

The council will now review the case on health and safety grounds.

In a statement, Norfolk Police said: “A decision has been made not to proceed with any manslaughter offences against any individual or company.”

Ava-May, from Somersham in Suffolk, had been at the beach last summer with members of her family.

A post-mortem examination revealed she died of a traumatic head injury after she was thrown from the inflatable on Gorleston’s Lower Esplanade.

Detectives from the Norfolk and Suffolk Major Investigation Team will now support Great Yarmouth Borough Council, which will review the evidence with a view to prosecuting under health and safety legislation, police said.

Harlow MP Robert Halfon called for an “urgent investigation” into the regulation of bouncy castles and inflatables in public areas in the days after the tragedy.

An inquest into the child’s death was adjourned last month while the police investigation continued.

Ava-May’s family described her as a “beautiful and bright little girl” who “loved everything, loved everyone”.

They have declined to comment following the latest police announcement.
