Man charged after Met officer survives two stab attempts during arrest

A man has been charged with attempted murder after a Met Police officer survived two attempted stabbings while trying to make an arrest.

Julian Peters, 35, will appear at Camberwell Magistrates’ Court on Thursday after being arrested in Clapham, south London, on Tuesday.

He has also been charged with making threats to kill and being in possession of a bladed article.

The officer who was attacked did not require hospital treatment.

The Met said a man “produced two knives” as he tried to leave a property in Lynette Avenue, Clapham, south London, at 21:00 BST.

Despite being attacked, the police officer drew her Taser, discharged it and chased the suspect.

Ch Supt Simon Messinger praised the officer for her “bravery”.

“She’ll be back helping keep the streets of south London safe once again today,” he added.

“Importantly, it also demonstrates how effective, and unfortunately necessary, a police officer’s protective equipment is as this has potentially saved her life.”
