Man bit police officer following Euros-related disorder in Devizes

Officers were tasked to Euros-related disorder across the county on Sunday (July 11.)

In one incident, a female police officer was bitten during an assault.

Of all the incidents responded to between 10pm and 1.30am, 20 related to disorders at licensed premises.

Police were called to the Rowden Arms in Rowden Hill near Chippenham, at 11.40pm after several people were injured by glass thrown through the air.

A woman in her 40s was taken to the Royal United Hospital with facial injuries, while two other women suffered minor injuries which did not require hospital treatment. Three men, aged 21, 21 and 25, were arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and are currently in custody at Melksham Police Station.

Meanwhile, a 45-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of failing to provide a specimen of breath after officers were called at around 12.30am on Monday morning (July 11) to the Premier Inn on Cepen Way, in Chippenham to reports of three people refusing to leave the hotel.

Victoria Piercy, 45, of St James Road, Dauntsey, has since been charged with drink driving and will appear at Swindon Magistrates’ Court on October 6.

Meanwhile Devizes, a 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of common assault, assault of an emergency worker and being drunk and disorderly, after a female officer was bitten responding to a disorder at the Wyvern Club. He has since been released under investigation.

Other incidents included

• In Salisbury, an 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly and assault of an emergency worker after being asked to leave the Bridge Tap on Fisherton Road shortly after 10pm. He has since been released under investigation.

• A 32-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of drink driving after we were also called to the Woodlands Edge pub in Peatmoor, Swindon, following reports of fights at around 11.10pm. She has since been released with no further action.

• A disorder in the garden of The Manor pub on Cheney Manor Road at around 11pm. A man in his 50s suffered a serious facial injury and is due to undergo surgery. Five others were less-seriously injured.

In the 24-hour period between 7am yesterday morning and 7am this morning, we had 19 incidents of domestic abuse reported to us. Five arrests were made in connection with these incidents – all of which are believed to be linked to the football.
