Police officer first on the scene at Manchester Arena bombing dies

A British Transport Police officer who was one of the first at the Manchester Arena bombing scene in 2017 has died.

PC Jane Bridgewater, who had over 23 years service with the force, died as a result of medical complications on Thursday, November 4.

The dedicated officer was one of the first on the scene following the arena bombing in 2017 that killed 23 people and injured over 1,000 more.

PC Bridgewater is reported to have administered CPR and first aid to two people who tragically died of their injuries.

Chief Superintendent Glen Alderson said: “It’s with great sadness we can confirm a serving police officer, PC Jane Bridgewater, very sadly passed away following medical complications on 4 November.

“Jane was based in Manchester and had over twenty years of distinguished service within British Transport Police, which included being one of the first on scene at the Arena bombing in May 2017.

“Our deepest condolences are with her wife Bernie, her family, and all those who knew and loved her.”

Another tribute from the British Transport Police Federation said: “It is with great sadness that we hear of the passing of PC Jane Bridgewater.

“Jane’s death was sudden and a shock to us all.

“She was a popular and respected colleague who had served over 23 years as a Police Officer in BTP.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Jane’s wife, family, friends and colleagues.

“Clearly this will be a difficult time for many in BTP, if you are affected by this very sad news please reach out for support from your Federation, line managers or fellow colleagues.”

Following news of her death, people replied to a statement put out by British Transport Police on their Facebook to express their condolences.

Alison Molloy posted: “Heartbroken to hear such sad news. I went to school with Jane and have such fond memories of her xxx RIP Jane and my thoughts and prayers are with her wife and family xxx”.
